Information For Authors

Interested in submitting to this journal? We recommend that you review the About the Journal page for the journal's section policies, as well as the Author Guidelines. For detailed instructions to use the software, visit this site:  https://docs.pkp.sfu.ca/learning-ojs/en/authoring  .

Authors need to register with the journal prior to submitting or, if already registered, can simply log in and begin the five-step process.

All manuscripts are peer-reviewed and are evaluated on the basis of their innovation, quality of scholarship, and contribution to the field of rural education. Submissions are accepted for the following journal sections:

Research Forum - This section includes quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research.  Manuscripts use APA style format that includes clear details in the method sections. Literature reviews are current and address research questions. Discussion draws conclusions from extant literature and research findings and states implications for future research or practice.

Practice Forum - This section includes descriptions of action research and professional practice in K-12 grades and preservice teaching programs. Descriptions of practice, which have been implemented in rural school settings, are supported by current evidence-based research. Recommendations for practice are made based on extant literature and lessons learned from implementations. Manuscripts use APA style format for tables, figures, citations, references, and headings and subheadings.

Book/Media Review - Authors may submit a proposal that includes the title, author, relevance to TPRE readership, and a brief (100-word) overview of the book or media. Upon acceptance of the proposal, the manuscript should be 1000-1500 words and provide an overview of the book/media and its relevance or timeliness to current issues in education; a background of the author's credentials; a comprehensive explanation of the specific topics covered; the prospective audience; and a summary/review/opinion.

Digital Project Submissions - The opportunity to outline the impact of the information being presented in the project and the fit with the scope of the journal is provided on the first screen of a submission in the block "For the Editors". The manuscript (800-1200 words) should include the rationale for the creation of the project, details about its conception and creation as well as a statement of the impact of the project for the rural education field. Description of the technology and other resources and funding resourses are required. Provide a permalink to the project.
