Theory & Practice in Rural Education  is an online open-access peer-reviewed journal published by ECU Library services and affiliated with the Rural Education Institute. Beginning January 2027, it will be published on a rolling basis as articles complete the editorial process. Originally titled the Journal of Curriculum and Instruction, Theory & Practice in Rural Education has evolved into a journal focusing on the needs of rural students, educators, community partners, and schools. Research Forum and Practice Forum are the two major sections of the journal.
